Draw names without paper slips
A name draw is one of the oldest ways to choose fairly: write every name on a slip, fold them, and pull one out of a hat. The random name draw wheel does the same job online, faster and with no slips to cut. Paste your list, spin, and the wheel shows the drawn name in large letters.
Because the draw happens on screen, everyone can watch it. That makes it ideal when people need to trust the result, such as a contest, a prize draw at an event or picking who goes first in a competition.
Drawing several names in order
Need first, second and third place, or a full running order? After each draw, click "Remove winner" so that name cannot be drawn again, then spin again. The Results tab lists every name in the order it was drawn, so you can copy the final order when you are done.
This works well for Secret Santa order, presentation schedules, tournament seeding and turn order in board games.
Keeping a draw transparent
For a public draw, show the entry list before spinning so people can check their name is included. Spin in full-screen mode, and consider recording your screen. You can also share the wheel link before the draw so participants can see the exact list being used.
Frequently asked questions
Is the result really random?
Yes. The winner is chosen with your browser's built-in cryptographic random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues) before the wheel starts turning. Every entry has exactly the same chance, and the spin animation simply shows that result.
How is this different from drawing names from a hat?
It gives the same fair chance to every name, but it is faster, works for very long lists, keeps a record of who was drawn and lets everyone watch the draw on screen.
Can I stop a name being drawn twice?
Yes. Click "Remove winner" after each draw. The name is taken off the wheel, so it cannot come up again.
Can I import a long list of names?
Yes. Copy a column of names from a spreadsheet or document and paste it into the entries box. Each line becomes one slice on the wheel.
Are my entries saved or shared with anyone?
Your entries are saved only in your own browser so they are still there next time. They are not uploaded to our servers. If you use the Share button, the entries are placed inside the link itself, so only people you send the link to can see them.
