Make fair teams in seconds

Picking teams by hand can be slow and can leave people feeling left out. The random team generator does it fairly in one click. Add your names, choose how many teams you need and press "Make teams". Names are shuffled with a secure random generator and dealt out one by one, so team sizes never differ by more than one person.

You can still use the wheel above to pick a single person, such as a team captain or who goes first, from the same list.

Where random teams help

Teachers use random groups for projects and classroom activities so students work with new classmates. Coaches and PE teachers use it for scrimmages and practice games. At work, random teams are great for hackathons, workshops, quiz nights and ice-breakers, because they mix people from different departments.

Not happy with the split? Press "Make teams" again for a completely new random arrangement.

Frequently asked questions

How does the team generator decide who goes where?

It shuffles your list with a secure random algorithm (a Fisher–Yates shuffle using crypto.getRandomValues), then deals the names into teams one at a time, like dealing cards.

Will the teams be the same size?

Teams will be as even as possible. If the names do not divide evenly, some teams will have one extra person.

How many teams can I make?

You can make from 2 up to 50 teams, as long as there is at least one name for each team.

Are my entries saved or shared with anyone?

Your entries are saved only in your own browser so they are still there next time. They are not uploaded to our servers. If you use the Share button, the entries are placed inside the link itself, so only people you send the link to can see them.
